Relocating the Bluetooth Antenna When Fitting the Nomad II

Fitting the Nomad II on your Ténéré 700? The stock Bluetooth antenna sits at the rear of the battery tray, right where the Nomad II wants to go. Easy fix: move the antenna out of the way before you mount the storage. Good news is you can do it without unplugging anything — it just needs a better home.

This applies to any T7 the Nomad II fits, so the under-seat layout is the same across all of them.

The short version: the antenna gets lifted out of its stock spot at the back of the tray and tucked into the open space up on the clutch side (left) of the battery. There's a decent pocket of room there. You're not disconnecting it, not splicing anything, not extending the lead. You're relocating the antenna body and tidying the cable. Ten-minute job.

Here's roughly where it ends up:

Reference sketch, not a photo — I'm still sourcing real install pics. Layout's approximate, so eyeball it against your own bike before committing.

What you'll need

Almost nothing. The seat comes off by hand — no tools. A couple of zip ties or a strip of Velcro are handy for keeping the antenna and cable tidy once it's in place, but that's optional.

The steps

  1. Remove the seat. It comes off by hand. Once it's off you'll see the battery, a fair bit of wiring, and the antenna sitting at the rear of the tray.
  2. Free the antenna — leave it plugged in. Lift it out of its stock spot at the back. There's enough slack to move it without disconnecting it.
  3. Move it up to the clutch side of the battery. That's the front-left corner of the tray as you sit on the bike. There's open space there to tuck the antenna body in flat against the battery. It sits clear of the Nomad II and still gets a clean signal.
  4. Route the cable down and tuck it. Run the lead down alongside the battery so there's no loose loop sitting up top. Keep it clear of anything sharp and anything that moves. A zip tie or some Velcro here keeps it from wandering on rough trail.
  5. Fit the Nomad II and refit the seat. Mount your storage, then drop the seat back on. Make sure nothing's pinched as the seat seats down, and check your phone still pairs before you ride off.

That's the whole job. If you end up taking photos during your own install, send them over — I'd love to put real shots in here instead of a sketch.
