Yamaha Ténéré 700 Model Year Guide: Which Generation Is Your Bike?
The Yamaha Ténéré 700 looks almost identical from 2019 through 2026. The frame, the silhouette, the tank shape — they're all consistent. But under the rider seat, three meaningfully different generations have come and gone. If you're trying to figure out which accessory fits your specific bike, the year alone often isn't enough.
This guide breaks down every T7 generation, how to identify which one you have, and what that means for under-seat storage.
The Quick Answer: Two Identifiers That Sort Most T7s
The fastest way to identify your T7's generation is to check two things:
- Your display — is it an LCD (older, blue-tinted backlit gauge cluster) or a TFT (full-color, higher-resolution screen)?
- Your battery — is it a YTZ10S (larger, no shroud) or a YTZ7S (smaller, with a plastic surround)?
Those two details sort the vast majority of T7s into the right generation. Here's what each combination means.
Generation 1: LCD Display / YTZ10S Battery (2019–2023)
The first-generation T7 ran from 2019 through most of 2023 across global markets. It's identifiable by its LCD instrument cluster and the larger YTZ10S battery sitting in the under-seat compartment.
This is the most common T7 on the road, and the generation with the broadest accessory ecosystem. The under-seat layout on this generation is what the Nomad was designed for — there's a usable cavity on the throttle side of the battery that fits a tire repair kit, tools, and documents without interfering with the airbox or tool tray.
If you're on the OEM seat, the Nomad is your product. If you've upgraded to the Yamaha Rally seat, the Scout is the Rally-seat equivalent — it uses the extra clearance the Rally seat creates above the battery to fit a taller box.

Generation 2: TFT Display / YTZ7S Battery (Select 2023–2024)
Partway through the 2023 model year, Yamaha updated the T7 with a full-color TFT display and swapped to the smaller YTZ7S battery. The two changes typically arrived together, but confirm both before ordering anything generation-specific — some regional variants received one update without the other.
The smaller YTZ7S battery frees up space in the under-seat compartment, but a Bluetooth antenna occupies the main usable zone in its stock position. The Nomad II is designed for this generation and requires relocating that antenna as part of installation. It's a straightforward mod — about 10 minutes, full instructions included — but it's a step Gen 2 owners need to plan for.
Confirmed fits for this generation:
- US Base — 2024
- EU Base — 2023, 2024
- EU Rally Edition — 2023
- EU Extreme — 2024

Generation 3: Current-Gen T7 (2025–2026)
The 2025 T7 brought another round of changes under the seat. The overall under-seat volume increased, but the component layout changed enough that neither the Nomad nor Nomad II fits. The Nomad III was designed specifically for this generation.
Like the Nomad II, the Nomad III requires relocating the Bluetooth antenna to access the full storage cavity. Instructions are included with every order.
Confirmed fits for this generation:
- US Base — 2025, 2026
- EU Base — 2025
- EU Base Low — 2025
- EU Rally — 2025
- AU Base — 2025
- JP Base — 2025
Storage for this generation: Nomad III (OEM seat) · Drifter II (pillion seat)
What About the Rally Seat?
The Yamaha Rally seat has been available as an accessory across all T7 generations. If your bike is running the Rally seat, the under-seat geometry changes regardless of which generation you're on — the Rally seat sits higher than stock and creates a different cavity profile entirely.
The Scout is built for Rally-seat T7s in the 2019–2023 generation. It uses the additional clearance the Rally seat creates to fit a taller storage box than the OEM-seat Nomad allows.
Important: The Scout is only compatible with the Yamaha Rally seat — not Seat Concepts or any other aftermarket seat. The Yamaha Rally seat's geometry is distinct enough that no substitute produces the same cavity.
Pillion Storage: Generation Matters Here Too
The pillion seat cavity also changed between generations. The Drifter fits 2019–2024 T7s; the Drifter II fits 2025–2026 T7s. Both mount under the rear seat and hold the small essentials — tire plugs, a multi-tool, cash, documents — without adding anything to the bike's exterior.
